Q. Why is using the service better than using my bank?
If you use your bank to make the payment directly to the college, your bank is likely to send an international payment without you knowing what the rate of exchange is. This not only costs you more, but is also likely to result in unforeseen additional bank charges meaning that the college may not receive the full payment due.
By using our online payment service, you are assured of a guaranteed rate of exchange, which you can accept before you pay. By using our payments service, you will be certain that the college will receive the full amount shown in your currency exchange document, and you will not have any delays because your bank has underpaid.
Q. Do I need to provide my University’s Bank Details?
No. We know the bank details for your college. Your payment will be sent on to the college with your name, Student ID number and course name (if you have added this detail)
Q. Which fees can I pay using this service?
This service can be used to make payment for all Tuition and / or Accommodation invoices on your student fees account.
Q. Can I use this service to make other International Payments?
Yes. Once you are registered, you can use this service to make payments to other people.

Making Bank Transfers
Q. Can I pay in my local currency?
Yes, provided that your local currency appears in the “currency type” when you use the currency calculator in the log in area, then GCEN will be able to make the exchange and transfer your local currency to the account that GCEN provide in an email at the end of the process. If your local currency is not available, please select an alternate currency such as US Dollars.
Q. How do I find the current exchange rate?
When you log in, you will see a currency converter. Enter the amount that you want to pay in GB Pounds, or the amount you want to send in your local currency. When you continue to the next screen, you will be given an exchange rate.
Q. Can I make more than one Bank Transfer?

Your local bank is likely to charge you for making a bank transfer to GCEN. However, GCEN do not charge for making transfers into your college bank account.
Q. My bank says that they cannot make a payment into the GCEN account provided in my email confirmation. Why?
GCEN can receive money transfers from all over the world. If you are experiencing problems, contact your bank to make the transfer again, or contact GCEN for advice.
Q. If I make a Bank Transfer in my local currency, will my college receive funds in the same currency?
No. If you pay in any currency, other than GBP, British Pounds, then your local currency will be exchanged into British Pounds and sent to the college.
Q. Why do I only have 48 hours for my Bank Transfer to arrive with GCEN?
GCEN quote an exchange rate, which is valid for 48 hours. Provided your payment reaches GCEN in that time frame, you are guaranteed that exchange rate. If you take longer, then GCEN cannot guarantee that they will keep the same exchange rate.
Q. Do I always have to quote my Student ID?
You must always quote your Student ID if you wish to make a payment to your college. If you are making a transfer to a different entity, then GCEN does not need your Student ID.
Q. Can I make a transfer via my own bank?
This college uses GCEN as its International Student Payments service. To ensure that the college receives your payments on time, with the correct ID and for the correct amount, we suggest that you use this service. If you prefer to make a payment direct to the College, using your own bank, we cannot guarantee that we will receive your payment on time and for the full amount.

Q. If I am using my card and paying the bill in a local currency, why am I being charged to change it into GB Pounds?
Because the college requires payment in GB Pounds and your local currency needs to be exchanged into that currency.
